TransplantBuddies.org Forums: Has anyone heard of PRES/toxicity from Prograf Log Out | Topics | Search | Register | Edit Profile I have no advice for you, but just wanted to say Weclome! We have some very knowledgeable people here, and I am sure someone will be posting with information for you. I hadn t heard of PRES -- I have heard of Prograf toxicity, but it usually seems to impact the kidneys -- and I ve heard of mild cases of confusion and tremors seemingly neuro issues in Prograf use -- but this PRES thing is a new one to me! Looking it up, I did see reference to cyclosporin and immunosuppression in some of the documents... Encephalopathy is one part of the dx. Sorry I m used to medical terms. It s like having a stroke, but no stroke found anywhere. A big surprise that Prograf FK patients aren t told, cholesterol in the body makes the FK work. At the time my FK was 30 level and my cholesterol was 20. In my case the cholesterol in the brain was attacked. Since the brain is made up of 75% cholesterol. Don t let the incident scare any tx individuals present, past, or future. I was paralyzed for about 5 days, FK levels came down and everything returned to normal. Because of this I can tell when my FK is up without labs. There is one word in my favor with the full dx of PRES, that is the word Reversible . This can happen to cyclosporin individuals also. So now I have to watch out for any serious blows to the head. As long as I stay within the baseline my tx team has set for I do fine. Out of all this I still can t run or jump. I did rehab for 6-8 months just to do normal activities. I m not a medical book pt, plus I m highly sensitive to medications.
