Clincal efficiency of combined antimycotic and keratolytic therapy in patients with foot mycosisThe objective of the study was to evaluate clinical efficiency of Nizoral cream and 30% urea-enriched Nizoral ointment for the treatment of the squamous-hyperkeratotic form of foot mycosis. The ointment was applied to thefoot skin once daily for 2 weeks. Each application of the ointment was followed after 30 min by the treatment of the same sites with Nizoral cream. Clinical recovery in half of the 15 patients was documented within 1 week after the initiation of therapy. Pathogenic fungi failed to be isolated from 80% of the patients after 2 weeks. One month following the termination of therapy, clinical recovery in all the patients was confirmed by laboratory studies. It is concluded that the combined treatment with Nizoral cream and 30% urea-containing solution produces good therapeutic and cosmetic effects in patients with squamous-hyperkeratotic form of foot mycosis.
